About this work

This painting is the last available in the series "Unguarded" the other two are sold. The series is about the unwritten rules in public transport and how people let their guard down in a room full of strangers.

About the artist

Bodine Ester Abramov is a 31-year-old visual artist from Amsterdam and founder of the collective. In the past ten years, she’s managed to work full-time in the visual art field in mediums like tattooing, painting, sculpting, and coaching on shows for national television.
In 2022 she was diagnosed with a chronic neurological disorder called: Trigeminal Neuralgia, also known as Suicide Pain. With a second brain surgery on the calendar and still in the midst of it all, suffering has become part of daily life. As well from the physical pain as from the side effects of her medication, like derealisation, which makes the world feel distant and unreal.
Being ill feels like a loss of self. It’s about grieving the person you used to be. With everything crumbling around her, she found herself desperately looking for a new hook to life, or rather an anchor, if you will.
She works by revisiting things from her life before illness and working on acceptance of what has passed. “In the literal space around me and how to feel safe in a body that has totally abandoned me, I make work about subjects that ground me.”
