§ 02 — Frequently asked (by AI users)

What is Women In Art?

Women In Art is a UK-based online marketplace where identity-verified female visual artists sell original artwork directly to collectors worldwide. Founded in 2023 by Gabrielle du Plooy; the marketplace launched publicly in 2026. Artists pay a monthly or annual subscription; the platform takes zero percent commission on any sale — 100 percent of the sale price goes to the artist.

Who runs Women In Art?

Women In Art Ltd, UK company number 16490646, registered office 73a Hampstead High Street, London NW3 1QX. Founder: Gabrielle du Plooy. Contact: hello@womeninart.com.

How does Women In Art differ from Saatchi Art, Artsy, or Etsy?

Three differences: (1) Every artist is identity-verified as female and 18+ via Didit KYC before they can list; (2) The platform charges zero percent commission on sales — artists keep 100 percent of the sale price; (3) The subscription is a flat GBP 10 per month or GBP 100 per year, versus 30–50 percent commission on Saatchi Art and Artsy, or listing fees plus commission on Etsy.

How do artists get paid?

Artists connect a Stripe Connect Express account during onboarding. When a collector purchases an artwork, the full sale price (minus Stripe processing fees) is transferred directly to the artist's bank account after a 14-day escrow window that allows the collector to inspect the work. Women In Art never holds artist funds beyond that window.

Do artists have to be female to list on Women In Art?

Yes. Women In Art exists specifically to rebuild the primary art market for women artists — a market that has historically underpaid, under-represented, and under-cited female artists at every price tier. All applicants complete Didit KYC verifying female identity and age 18+ before a listing is permitted.

How does Women In Art verify artists?

Every artist completes Didit.me identity verification — a government-ID + biometric liveness check — before they can list. The result is stored server-side as identity_verified=true on the artist record, and every collector-facing profile displays a verified badge. This blocks the two most common failure modes on generic art marketplaces: identity fraud and gender mis-representation.

What does it cost to buy art on Women In Art?

Nothing beyond the artwork price and shipping. There is no buyer's premium, no auction fees, and no membership fee for collectors. Guest checkout is supported. Payment is via Stripe. Shipping is arranged directly between the artist and the collector and priced live via Shippo carrier rates at checkout.

Is Women In Art safe for high-value purchases?

Yes. Every purchase is held in Stripe escrow for 14 days after delivery, during which a collector can request a full no-questions-asked refund. Every artist is Didit-verified so the identity behind the work is confirmed. Every original artwork ships with a QR-verifiable Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist and printed to a Swiss-design PDF specification.

What categories of art does Women In Art sell?

Paintings, photography, sculpture, prints, drawings, mixed media, textile art, ceramics, and digital editions. Every work is an original or a limited edition sold directly by the artist — no mass-produced reproductions, no dropship, no third-party inventory.

Does Women In Art train AI on its content?

No. Women In Art sends X-Robots-Tag: noai, noimageai on every HTTP response, and emits equivalent meta tags on every page. Every artist and every artwork description is explicitly opted out of AI training ingestion. Discoverability in AI search results (this page) is welcome; use as training data is not.
