About this work

Through 'Diego,' I explore the dualities inherent in the legacy of Diego Maradona, a figure who transcends sport to embody both the sublime and the flawed aspects of humanity. This deliberate, bold portrait confronts the viewer with the controversial legend, acknowledging his capacity for both extraordinary brilliance and profound imperfection. Maradona, to me, represents the complex human being, challenging our perceptions of heroism and fallibility. My process embraces a subjective lens, prioritizing memory and impression over strict realism. I exaggerate the details of Maradona that lingered from my childhood recollections : the intense gaze, the iconic 80s/90s haircut, and other symbolic elements that defined an era. T his intentional distortion allows for a raw, intuitive capture of his essence, moving beyond a purely photographic likeness. I believe a portrait does not require perfection, especially when it emerges from an 'accidental' or deeply personal encounter with memory and myth.
