This painting 'Joan' is the artist personal homage to Joan Mitchell, one of the greatest American abstract expressionist artists. Monica Maja Richardson is deeply inspired by the abstract expressionist movement and for this painting in particular she tried to evoke the beautiful different shades of yellow of "Chez my soeur" an incredible painting that Mitchell made in 1981.
