About this work
Peaceful Awakening is the 20th painting in The Path, a 21-piece collection. It captures the feeling of naturally waking up when you've slowed down the pace of life, in which less means more to you — no demands, no list forming before your feet touch the floor, just the quiet realisation that the day ahead is entirely yours to shape. Painted wet-on-wet, the piece uses warm golds, soft blues and Mediterranean hues to give the light a natural glow, while the loose, blended brushwork across the bedding was built to evoke a sense of comfort and ease — a stillness the viewer can almost feel themselves sinking into. It was inspired by a morning I woke up with this feeling in my home in Alanya, and I wanted to capture that feeling in a painting before it passed.
