Resistance

About this work

In Resistance, more than nine hundred screws pierce a clear polycarbonate plane, anchoring slender latex forms that are stretched, twisted, and tensioned into the portrait of a woman. Eyes closed, mouth open, she appears suspended—caught between collapse and endurance, held only by the thinnest filaments of color. The latex is pulled to the edge of its breaking point. Each strand registers the force applied to it: the strain, the near-snap, the fragile equilibrium that keeps the image intact. What begins as industrial hardware and disposable balloon material becomes a body under pressure, a psyche strained past ordinary capacity yet still refusing to rupture. The work is not a depiction of defeat. It is the moment just before the thread gives way—the precise instant when resistance itself becomes the only remaining structure.
