The Seed We Nurture reflects on the quiet act of caring for what we wish to see grow. Held gently in the woman’s hands, the seed becomes a symbol of possibility — of the dreams we carry, the relationships we nurture, and the parts of ourselves that need time, patience and care to unfold. At the same time, the seed speaks of our connection to the earth and our responsibility towards it. Its roots remind us that growth is never separate from what sustains us. Recycled jute, Aguayo textile and hand embroidery are woven into the painting alongside acrylic, bringing material, memory and tradition into the work. Each element becomes part of the same idea: what we choose to nurture today shapes what will grow tomorrow.

About the artist

Gisella Stapleton is a Peruvian-born, London-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores female interiority, cultural memory and belonging. Across painting, hand embroidery, mixed media and muralism, she examines the relationship between our inner landscapes and the natural world, reimagining inherited visual languages through contemporary figuration.
