About this work
My paintings emerge in stages and layers, with no planning just a risky kind of intuition in the hope of getting to something that feels right. In this painting, a horse dominated the canvas for a lot of it, until it began to take on a more ghostly presence, merging with the figure and background. Somehow this told a fuller story, something hidden came to light.
