World Monuments Fund Adds Black Mountain College Building to U.S. Preservation Watch List

The World Monuments Fund has declared Black Mountain College's iconic building "irreplaceable," adding it to the U.S. Preservation Watch List. This designation underscores the profound legacy of an institution that radically transformed art education, fostering an experimental spirit and interdisciplinary community where many influential artists, including pioneering women, thrived. For emerging women artists, this recognition is a powerful reminder that groundbreaking work often flourishes in unique, supportive environments outside traditional structures. It encourages us to value our own unconventional paths, build strong creative communities, and champion spaces that allow for bold artistic exploration, ensuring our collective impact is similarly preserved. — Source: ARTnews
