Statement

My paintings investigate the relationship between music, abstraction, and cultural memory, translating musical structure into visual form through rhythm, repetition, geometry, and color. Drawing on musical traditions shaped by migration, I use sound as both a compositional framework and a repository of history, tracing the movement of people, ideas, and identities across cultures. Working while listening to music, I approach painting as an immersive and responsive process. Tempo, pattern, and improvisation inform the organization of the surface, allowing color, line, and symbolic forms to develop through systems of repetition and variation. The resulting works occupy a space between order and intuition, where structured compositions coexist with moments of spontaneity. Underlying this formal language is an ongoing investigation of immigrant histories and the ways music preserves memory across generations. My work considers both the struggles of displacement and adaptation and the cultural richness that migration contributes to society. In the face of the recent attacks on immigrants my focus has been on highlighting the history of immigration in New York, and around the world, primarily through my background as a Latin American immigrant. Through abstraction, I seek to create spaces where these histories can be experienced through rhythm, perception, and visual resonance rather than literal narrative.
