Iva Urban is a Ukrainian contemporary artist based in London. Her practice begins with the physical trace of gesture and mark, developed through painting, installation and mixed media.

Statement

TRACE AS FORM Where experience becomes matter. What remains becomes a trace. A lived moment, an image, an idea or a question can remain long after it passes, taking form in the painting. I work through colour, gesture, material and space, moving between intensity and restraint, accumulation and reduction, colour and its absence. In my monochromatic works, I turn towards what remains when the unnecessary is stripped away. Creating is a form of expression, a way of articulating what matters to me. Can absence become a form of presence?
