East Midlands based artist who uses oil paint to explore masking, presentation and dissociation through portraiture.

Statement

My work explores dissociation and multifaceted identity through layered portraiture and colour. It's an exploration of both the way we present ourselves and the way we are perceived. It's also an expression of both love and frustration towards the many roles that we each have to play in the world and the expectation to continue to hold yourself together for those around you.  My work often depicts vacant expressions or the polar opposite, screaming, crying or joy. I use a mixture of oil paint, oil sticks, coloured pencils and acrylic paint, depending on the subject, with a mix of textures and a blend of thoughtfully considered marks that incorporate both smooth blending and spontaneous mark making. I am at the start of this body of work and plan to continue to develop the series over the next several years, or possibly indefinitely.
