Statement

Laura Hannah is an East Yorkshire-based autobiographical artist whose work serves as a profound vehicle for healing and self-discovery. After a pause from her creative practice, Laura returned to art following a life-altering cancer diagnosis and the subsequent transition into surgical menopause. Her practice functions as a visceral processing of these experiences, transforming personal trauma into a narrative of resilience. Central to Laura’s current body of work is the metaphor of the moth, used to illustrate themes of transformation, nocturnal soul-searching and re-birth. While her recent output has focused on the fluid intersection of acrylic paints and ink, her practice is currently evolving into a multi-disciplinary exploration. Moving forward, she is expanding her toolkit to include sculpture, photography and performance art, utilizing her own body as the primary canvas to further bridge the gap between internal psyche and external form. Laura holds a BA (Hons) in illustration from Lincoln University.
