Statement
My acrylic paintings invite viewers into worlds where light and colour express life's serene possibilities. My canvases frequently depict the quiet majesty of coastal landscapes, the watchful presence of felines, and the vibrant bounty of flowers and allotments. Whether capturing the luminous arc of a moon over the sea or the fleeting brilliance of a sunset, I seek to imbue each scene with a sense of calm and wonder. Inspired by the bold compositions of Matisse and the luminous forms of O'Keeffe, filtered through the vibrant light of Mediterranean islands and the Sussex coast, these everyday scenes are elevated to moments of profound stillness. My process begins with exploratory sketches, evolving into a rich tapestry of layered acrylics. I build depth through colour and detail, introducing familiar subjects—often cats, birds, and botanical elements—as focal points within the evolving narrative. A deliberate focus on the interplay of light and colour guides my hand, aiming to evoke a profound feeling of peace and tranquility in each finished piece. Ultimately, I paint to articulate a vision of how life, in its everyday beauty, can truly be.
