About this work

Azure Blush is created from vintage world maps and atlas pages, with a particular focus on oceans, coastlines, islands and international waters. Fragments of sea, land, borders and place names are carefully selected for their colour and detail, then reassembled into a precise geometric dot composition. The palette moves between clear azure blues, soft turquoise, pale greens and areas of blush pink. Much of the work is made from ocean mapping, so the composition has a sense of openness and distance, interrupted by small traces of land, borders, routes and named places. Each map fragment is hand-bonded onto birch plywood, then laser cut into individual circular dots. These are arranged into an ordered grid, transforming scattered fragments of the world into a calm, structured field of colour. The piece explores the contrast between the fluidity of oceans and the fixed borders humans place on land. Seas connect continents, cultures and histories, while the map fragments hint at movement, migration, exploration and belonging across the wider world. Framed in a white box frame. Protected with museum-quality UV perspex glazing to help prevent fading. Carefully wrapped and packaged in a custom-made box with protective corners for safe worldwide shipping.
