About this work

This painting of a hawk was inspired by an original image by the Japanese artist Ohara Koson (1877-1945). Koson is remembered as a master of the Japanese 'Kacho-e' style, which literally means 'pictures of birds and flowers', dating back to the Edo period (1603 to 1867).
