About this work

**Series of 16 works**, mixed media: acrylic and photography on Fine Art baryta paper, color, 2019–2025. This series presents a body partially wrapped in medical bandages, set against the backdrop of a vast desert landscape. Simultaneously evoking care and restraint, the bandages become symbolic elements that embody the fragile threshold between wound and healing, exposing the vulnerability that lies at the heart of the experience of exile. Each image is built through a process of layering, combining the textures of bandages, traces of scars, and visual references to Iran. These overlapping surfaces create a fragmented visual space in which memory unfolds as unstable and constantly shifting—marked by rupture, displacement, and the persistence of absence. The works explore how the body becomes a site where personal and collective histories are inscribed, carrying the invisible marks of trauma, resilience, and survival.

About the artist

Parya Vatankhah is a French-Iranian multidisciplinary visual artist whose work explores exile, memory, the body, and political resistance. Through photography, performance, video, and installation, she creates powerful visual narratives that question identity, freedom, and the resilience of women facing oppression.
