About this work

My work seeks to capture those subtle, revelatory moments throughout the course of life. I once worked as a journalist in China, a career that kept me constantly reflecting on the nature of life. After transitioning into an artist, I channel all these long-standing contemplations into my paintings. I am repeatedly struck by life’s grandeur and transience, the fractured bond between the individual and the collective, and the quiet melancholy that emerges with every new stage of growth and decline. Humans are intricate, delicate beings; much of our inner insight and emotion cannot be neatly translated into words. Our perceptions of ourselves and the world stay hazy and fragmented, and we often only grasp their meaning in hindsight. The flowers and fish in my art are far more than mere portrayals of life’s vibrancy and beauty. They hold a profound meditation on existence: to every single individual, life is fleeting, yet when seen as a collective whole, life surges forward endlessly along an unceasing, everlasting thread.
