About

South England artist working in acrylics and oils. Expressive landscapes & patterns in nature.

Statement

My practice investigates the sense of place when one is alone in the landscape. That particular stillness. The moment before something changes. The feeling that the natural world doesn’t judge you — it simply asks that you see it. I have always felt this too. It’s why I paint. I paint the natural world in its moments of solitude. Before the day begins. Before the storm breaks. Before anyone else arrives. I am a pattern spotter, endlessly distracted by beauty and contrast. The patterns in a marsh at first light. The texture of a weathered hull. The moment a frozen pond catches the sky. My paintings are built in layers — acrylics and oils on wood panel or canvas, painted, scratched back, covered and partially revealed. Surfaces that hold their history to keep you coming back to look and find again and again.
