Statement
What if the most powerful thing we can do is simply pause and fully look in order to see? My work is rooted in the belief that we live in a beautiful world, and I want to bring attention back to what is extraordinary in the everyday. Nothing in our world is ordinary. Every surface, detail, texture and fleeting moment holds something remarkable if we pause long enough to notice it. Using photography (pigment printed on textured paper) and gilded metal leaf, I transform overlooked fragments of the natural world into layered works that invite a slower, more reflective way of looking. Through the process of gilding, I layer, obscure and reveal different elements within the image, exploring the idea that there is always more beneath the surface than we first perceive. There is always another layer, another possibility, another way of seeing. The metal leaf is not simply decorative. It acts as light within the work, drawing attention to details that may otherwise go unseen. Metal leaf placed against paper creates a contrast between what is precious and what is often overlooked. In this way, the materials themselves reflect my belief that what appears ordinary can become extraordinary when we give it our attention. The textured paper and the metal leaf create a subtle sense of depth and three-dimensionality that is best experienced in person, allowing the work to shift with light and perspective as the viewer moves around it. It is a reminder that a different perspective can open new possibilities. My work offers a moment of pause. It invites people to reconnect with wonder, hope and possibility, and reminds us how precious and fragile everything is. Through that shift in perspective and my philosophy, I hope the work brings a quiet sense of renewal and empathy, with optimism at its core.
