Statement

My art is generally about things that capture my notice, fascinate or otherwise annoy me. I look at the particular to capture the universal. My belief is that all art is political and reflects society and that it should work on a visceral emotional level and not just decorate a room. I was brought up within a working class family and that has given me the opportunity to look at art through fresh perspectives. I won the inaugural’ changing ideas “ prize at RSA 2026 200th exhibition for my piece’ hospitalised’ which was praised for its confrontation of issues of patient dignity and systematic failures in care and call for action. I also recently won a prize awarded by the South West Academy for my piece‘Papillon’ about the debilitating affect of depression. I believe a painting should work on three levels predominantly a visual level but also on an intellectual and emotional level.
