About this work

What did Icarus know of flight? What do any of us know of leaping into a vast, unknowable sky; our faces lit by the sun, skin dazzling, our feathers ragged and worn, with only dreams at our feet to hold us? Knowledge isn’t our guide, only feeling, the pull of that other life, the weight of the wings we long for. And with that weight comes the certainty that it is better to have launched ourselves headlong into the raging sun of our dreams than to have never known the dream at all. (from my book Letters to the Muse) A painting on 110cm circular wood panel, with canvas collage along the edges.
