Fortitude

About this work

‘Fortitude’ is part of an ongoing series of self portraits. Since turning 60, an age marker I really wasn’t looking forward to, I have actually found that I am much stronger and more resilient than I thought I was. This new age of 60, ( yes I know it’s only a number!), has given me a sense of freedom and power that after having gone through many life experiences have shaped the woman I am today. I decided to use the stone and rock formations that I walk past in my beautiful home of North Devon as the influence for these larger pieces. Giving these heads, my head, a sense of resilience, weathered but strong. I also included small areas of black glitter evoking imagery of some of the rocks and as a reminder to us all to carry on sparkling.
