About this work
‘Give me strength’ is part of an on going series of self portraits. Since turning 60, an age marker that I really wasn’t looking forward to, I have actually found that I am much stronger and more resilient than I thought I was. This new age of 60, (it’s only a number, I know!), has given me a sense of freedom and power after having gone through many life experiences all of which have shaped the woman I am today. I decided to use the stone and rock formations that I walk past in my beautiful home of North Devon as the influence for these large pieces. Giving these heads, my head, a sense of resilience, weathered but strong. I think a lot of women can relate to this.
