The light within, 2024

About this work

Mixed media drawing in ink, charcoal, pastel, on specialist Ruscombe Mill paper. The signed piece is float mounted, framed in hardwood and with museum glass. ‘The light within’, is an mixed media drawing looking at the reverse pose of a woman’s back. She feels strong both internally and externally. The delicately layered drawing is on soft green /grey fine art milled paper. There’s a glow of natural light which is strikingly captured as though the subject is wrapped in it, whilst simultaneously the golden light emits from within her. There’s an inner calm here; she is serine and powerful. Shaped by the physicality of form, yet her memory, emotion and the invisible space around her takes hold. Here I’d like to think the figure moves beyond the confines of traditional representation, becoming an exploration of presence rather than perfection. Inner light is in all of us.
