About this work

In Freedom, I explore the quiet moment where surrender becomes liberation. The figure is submerged, eyes closed, suspended between breath and silence. Water—often perceived as a threat—transforms here into a place of release, softening the boundaries between body, thought, and emotion. Color plays a central emotional role in the work. Cool blues and aquas dominate the composition, evoking calm, depth, and introspection, while warmer flesh tones emerge beneath the surface, preserving the humanity of the subject. These subtle color shifts mimic the way light bends underwater, creating a sensation of immersion and psychological distance from the external world. The contrast between cool and warm tones reinforces the tension between vulnerability and serenity. The bubbles act as both a visual and symbolic element. Painted with heightened luminosity and soft distortion, they fracture the face and interrupt clarity, suggesting the release of breath, words, and control. Rather than indicating panic, the bubbles rise gently, becoming markers of transition—moments of letting go. They introduce movement into an otherwise suspended scene, emphasizing freedom as a gradual, unfolding process rather than an abrupt act. Built through layered oil glazes, the surface remains fluid and atmospheric, resisting sharp edges in favor of dissolution. Freedom is not about escape, but about inner emancipation—choosing stillness over resistance, trust over fear. It reflects my understanding of freedom as an internal state, achieved when vulnerability replaces struggle. This work invites collectors and viewers to consider freedom not as an external condition, but as an intimate psychological shift—where release, stillness, and self-acceptance become acts of quiet strength.
