About this work

"Talking to the Universe" began as a private whisper: a late-afternoon slump of sunlight, a rotary-era phone, and a girl reclining among faded florals, half-dreaming and half-soliciting the sky. I wanted the piece to feel like an old photograph and it is inspired on a 1971 film.--soft, warm tonality, worn textures--while the subject's direct, vulnerable gaze and the looping cord suggest an intimate broadcast, a call sent into the ether. The vintage palette and tactile brushwork anchor memory and nostalgia, but the composition--cropped close, skin luminous, lips parted--keeps it urgent and present. Oil On Canvas 24 x 30 in
