About this work
*Domestic Sovereign* is a deeply personal ceramic self-portrait exploring motherhood, identity and the contradictions of domestic authority. Wearing a makeshift cardboard crown, the central figure is surrounded by her family, connected by lengths of red string that symbolise the invisible bonds of care, responsibility and emotional labour. Through humour and playful symbolism, the work questions the idea of the mother as ruler of her domestic kingdom, revealing the tension between devotion, obligation and personal autonomy.
