The Modern Hippie is a colour filled portrait of artist, musician and writer Stu Hampton. Stu is one of the worlds true individuals. He devotes his life to being a modern day hippie. Clothes, life style and attitude. He has written a book called The Hippie Handbook. This book is full of information on how to be a psychedelic hippie in todays tech and consumerist world. He wishes to spread love and and a hippie culture including altered consciousness, meditation and basics such as how to eat. As well as living in communes Stu wishes to establish an environment were those looking for an alternative can come and be in peace, make music and love one another as humans. The portrait of Stu was inspired by a picture of him dressed up with full face paint. Bright and colourful yellow, pink and turquios eyes. He gazes at himself in an elaborate vintage mirror. A twisted tree branch runs around his arm. This is symbolic of his being in touch with nature. The sky is an elaborate rainbow of colours showing his hippie persona. The placement of a butterfly over his head is symbolic of a pure soul. To the right flies a dove of peace to show Stu’s wish for peace in the world. A lute is in the right hand corner of the painting to show us that he is a musician.
