BUILT ON TRUST

About this work

Built On Trust is an oil painting on canvas, 90 × 70 cm, part of my collection The Path. I wanted to capture what it feels like to take a leap of faith—to make decisions without knowing what lies on the other side, yet having the confidence to move forward, trusting that you'll be caught. By yourself, by the people who truly support you, or simply by the resilience you've built along the way. To express this, I painted a woman in motion in a stone courtyard, her back arched, arms open and completely unguarded. The stone around her symbolises the support beneath her—solid, unmoving, holding her as she lets go. I painted the scene in earthy tones to give it a sense of stability and calm. This is a painting of a woman who has found the courage to take a leap because she knows she's supported. I wanted to capture that exact moment: the leap, the trust, and the confidence to move forward without knowing what comes next. Built In Trust is one of 21 paintings in The Path, my collection born from inner work, capturing the life that opens up once we start living with more honesty, freedom, and joy.

About the artist

Betty Greer is a Scottish, self-taught figurative oil painter and writer. Her debut collection, The Path, explores the joy, freedom, and possibilities that open up once we live a life true to ourselves.
