About this work

This painting takes its name from the character in Homer's 'The Odyssey'. Calypso's island was hidden so completely that even Odysseus couldn't find his way back to it. The painting symbolises something soft, ethereal, half revealed, enticing and is anchored with something forged and permanent - a hand stamped piece of brass with title of the painting on it.

About the artist

I am a mixed-media artist working from my studio in Bolton, Lancashire, trading as Quiet Thunder. My work is painted using watercolours on a non traditional background of raw canvas. Edges are left deliberately frayed to evoke a certain fragility. Hand stitch, metallic leaf and hand-stamped metal add to the stories drawn from myth and ancestry.
