About this work

An abstract piece worked in blacks, rust, ochre and cream, with a scored patch of white breaking through on the left and small notes of teal appearing lower down. The surface has real texture - visible brushwork, scratched lines, a cracked passage of white that catches the light differently depending on where you're standing. The palette does the work here: warm, smouldering tones that shift into cooler grey and blue toward the edges, like heat fading out. Nothing pinned down or figurative - just colour and mark, left to sit.

About the artist

I am a mixed-media artist working from my studio in Bolton, Lancashire, trading as Quiet Thunder. My work is painted using watercolours on a non traditional background of raw canvas. Edges are left deliberately frayed to evoke a certain fragility. Hand stitch, metallic leaf and hand-stamped metal add to the stories drawn from myth and ancestry.
