About this work
The Space Between Breaths explores that quiet moment when everything seems to soften and become still. Layers of cool blue-grey, muted light and warmer copper tones move across the surface, with areas of texture emerging and disappearing as the eye travels through the painting. Created intuitively in acrylic and mixed media, the work developed through layering, texture, washes and expressive mark-making rather than from a predetermined image. There is a suggestion of landscape within it, but I have deliberately left the painting open enough for the viewer to find their own sense of place and meaning. For me, it is about stillness, space and the small pause between one moment and the next.
