About this work
Where the Embers Remain developed intuitively, through layers of acrylic, washes and texture. I didn’t begin with a fixed image in mind; instead, I allowed the painting to evolve as areas were built up, softened and partially obscured. As the work developed, the warmer tones began to emerge through the deeper blues, charcoals and muted greys. They reminded me of the last glow of embers — something still present beneath the surface, even after everything around it has quietened. I love leaving enough ambiguity in my abstract work for the viewer to find their own landscape, memory or feeling within it.
