What the Earth Keeps brings together fragments with different histories: a broad brushstroke, a delicate wash, a scraped surface. Through collage, these separate gestures find a place beside one another, their edges and overlaps becoming part of the composition. Burgundy and rust meet pale pink, cream and grey-blue. The colours suggest the inside of a stone or layers of earth exposed, where something vivid has been held beneath the surface.

About the artist

Anna Rolskaya is a Lisbon-based abstract painter who works in acrylic, oil stick, and mixed media. Classically trained and color-sensitive from her watercolor experience, her work draws on floral forms and features translucent, layered washes. Her paintings have been exhibited at The Other Art Fair London and Lisbon Art Fair, and are held in private collections in Europe, the UK, the US, and Australia.
